An analysis of the number of certifications in the world – ISO Survey 2019

ISO conducts a survey on the number of certifications in the world, called the ISO Survey. The survey is delayed by 1 year and refers to the total number of certifications from the previous year of publication, in this case 2019.

The ISO Survey is not a survey to be evaluated in absolute numbers, that is, how many certifications, but what is the growth trend, what was the higher or lower percentage, the growth highlights, the scenario for this growth, among others. This is because the research is voluntary and not all certification bodies participate, which provides a large margin of error. Warnings made It is time to assess these trends from the ISO Survey 2019.

The biggest growth

The certification that grew the most worldwide, according to the ISO Survey, was ISO 45001 – Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, with a resounding growth of more than 200%. Several factors culminated in this growth, such as the migration of the various companies certified in OHSAS 18001 or local OH&S standards, and the very ISO seal on the theme made more companies seek this certification.

Another important point is the increasingly latent concern of companies for the well-being of employees and the social issues involved.

The consolidation of ISO 37001

The ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery Management Systems, according to the ISO Survey, shows the incredible growth of more than twice the world over the previous year. This demonstrates that more and more companies understand the importance of certification and the Standard is consolidated as a tool for assessing the maturity of compliance programs worldwide.

In addition, it is important to note that there are cases such as in Peru and Singapore, in which the Standard is mentioned in the anti-corruption legislation itself causing more and more companies to seek certification. Another important factor is the pressure from large multinational corporations demanding the certification of their customers.

GDPR, LGPD and ISO 27001

ISO 27001 Information Security Management Systems reaches the podium together with ISO 13485 and ISO 20000-1, with a growth of around 15%. ISO 27001 is among the fastest growing standards in the world in terms of certifications, according to the ISO Survey, precisely because it has been configured as the main tool to attend the various privacy laws worldwide.

The large ISO 9001 and ISO 14001

Contrary to the prognosis of market pessimists, both Standards have grown and ended a series of declines in previous years. ISO 14001 has grown by almost 2%, which is a lot for a standard with thousands of certifications worldwide and active since 1996.

ISO 9001, according to the ISO Survey, grew by 0.5% worldwide. The Standards Standard remains stronger than ever and companies are looking for value in certification.

All ISO certifications have grown in the world, this makes our mission more and more active, we are going to build a stronger society every day through the certifications.
